These paintings and stone carvings with accompanying text are centered around early Christianity and are inspired by the wall paintings in the catacombs, the ancient Christian burial chambers found beneath Rome dating 1st-3rd century AD.
The Catacombs wall paintings are full of seasonal colour, Greek mythology and Biblical themes going back to the Creation. This cosmic impulse was soon to become dull, rigid, orthodox and existing only within the constraints of organized religion. This collection of paintings by Greg Tricker and the accompanying text by Johannes Steuck can be seen as a reflection upon a renewal of early Christianity.
