Masterpiece Online: Modern British Masters

Running in parallel to Masterpiece is Drawn to Paper: Degas to Rego, an exhibition of works on paper by many canonical artists of modernism including Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Fernand Léger and Salvador Dalí. The works in this exhibition were made over a century, from the 1870s to the 1990s, and they demonstrate the creative breakthroughs which British, American and European artists have made when confronted with a blank sheet of paper. Starting with Edgar Degas in late-nineteenth-century Paris, the exhibition continues with paragons of continental modernism, Picasso, Miró and Léger, and concludes with works made by Rego and Freud and Cy Twombly in the 1980s and ‘90s.
