Leo Davy 1924 - 1987

Published in conjunction with Piano Nobile's summer 2010 exhibition, Leo Davy 1924-1987: A Passion to Paint, is a fully illustrated catalogue, providing insights into both the work and the man behind the paintings. The catalogue features a foreword by reknowed British artist Sir Kyffin Williams RA, a short memoir of life with Leo Davy by his wife Antonia Davy, and an insightful essay by the art historian and critic Andrew Lambirth. 

Leo Davy studied at the Kingston School of Art, and later at the Slade, and was an active participant in the London art scenes of the 1950s and 60s, exhibiting alongside Patrick Heron, William Gear, Alan Davie and William Scott.  This exhibition focuses on Davy's paintings from the 50s, 70s and 80s, moving from Davy's development towards a personalised abstract vision into his mature confidence of an expansive colour palette of blues, pinks and whites, evoking sunsets and sunrises, or Rubens-esque flesh. This catalogue offers a comprehensive illustration of his early and mature career, and personal and professional insights.
