Christopher Bramham (b. 1952)
Christopher Bramham was born in Bradford in 1952. He studied at Bradford College of Art and Kingston-upon-Thames Art School between 1970 and 1973. He subsequently worked part-time as a teacher until 1986 before showing in solo exhibitions at the Fine Art Society in 1988 and Marlborough Fine Art from 1992 until 2002. For many years he lived and worked in Richmond, Surrey. He met Lucian Freud in 1983 when ‘a sort of antiques dealer who used to install and repair chandeliers’ introduced them. Bramham later wrote: ‘I learnt from Freud how to persist with a picture. To do that you have to love the subject.’ He and his family moved to Cornwall in 1999. His work is owned by the British Council Collection and has been acquired by many distinguished private collectors including Jacob Rothschild, Elaine and Melvin Merians and Lucian Freud.
